The world's best surfers and skaters return to Newquay again

The Relentless Boardmasters - UK's largest lifestyle sports festival - returns to Fistral Beach with even more promised by the organisers. Since it began in 1981, the Relentless Boardmasters has evolved from a regional surf contest into a world-class lifestyle festival, where sport, music and youth culture are blended together in a nine-day beach extravaganza.

This legendary free event is the only UK event to be part of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour. More than 200 international surfers will descend on Newquay to compete across the different disciplines in the four-star WQS event for the 60,000 in prize money. The contest gives top Cornish surfers the chance to take on world class competition on a local break.

It is expected that over 200 international surfers will descend upon Newquay this summer to compete for over $100,000 in prize money. Last year the Boardmasters featured the likes of Adrian Buchan, of Australia, Ed Bishof, of Brazil, and Newquay's own WCT surfer Russell Winter, who came very close to winning the contest.

Also returning will be the Right Guard Xtreme Sport VERTSK8 Series - the UK's biggest vert skate tour. Rodeos, McTwists and 540s will be the flavour of the day as Europe's top skaters perform jaw dropping tricks and battle it out with entrants from the US, Australia and the Globe team, to become the 2002 series champion.

And if that's not enough, a new twist has been added to this year's series. It has been laid down that whoever pulls off the legendary

This year's Right Guard Xtreme Sport VertSK8 Series is destined to be a ramp-busting Fight to the Vert. London's Ali Cairns will be among the seven invited riders, together with the likes of James Kennedy, of Australia, Terence Bougdour, of France, and Sergie Ventura, of the USA.
